A wonderful antique desk on brass casters by James Shoolbred & Co. Estimated to be early 20th century.
James Shoolbred, a linen draper of Scottish descent, established Shoolbred & Co. in 1814. By 1817, the business had relocated to 153 Tottenham Court Road, gradually expanding its offerings to include woollen drapery, silk mercery, haberdashery, and carpets. This desk is thought to be a later example of their furniture designs and is estimated to have been crafted in the early half of the 20th century.
This desk has been expertly restored. Overall it is in excellent condition with some age-appropriate wear (please see photographs for details).
