Amy’s family home in Yorkshire is a treasure trove for vintage furniture and objects. She tells us about her favourite pieces that have been passed down from generations before her.
How would you describe your interiors style?
I think my husband would say “like an antique shop” - but I would say cosy cottage style, with a heavy focus on family pieces and second-hand vintage.
How do you use vintage in your home?
Well, we inherited a lot of our furniture. For example, one of the tables in our living room belonged to my great-grandfather’s great-grandmother. We try to use most of the antiques we own for their intended purpose, but any that are really fragile inevitably become more of an ornament. Vintage really is just part of our life.
What do you love most about buying vintage?
There’s a double aspect to buying vintage for me. Firstly it’s the story behind a vintage piece. I’m a huge lover of history, and I love the idea of continuing the use of an item. But also from a sustainability point of view, I’d much rather buy second-hand before considering something new.
What does home mean to you?
Home means a place for family. For me, my husband and kids, but also for remembering my extended family and ancestors. Every time I wind our clock I think of Tom’s grandad. When I’m baking I use my nana’s storage jars and rolling pin. Wherever I look there are historic family photos and heirlooms.
