Talented renovator Tilly tells us how she has been restoring her Victorian home in keeping with its original charm and character.
How would you describe your interior style?
That's a tricky one, I'd say my style is quite traditional. I've tried to implement classic design choices with small modern touches here and there. I feel like I owe it to this beautiful old house to stay as true as I can to its history, whilst still enjoying the comforts of modern living.
How do you use vintage in your home?
I have many vintage items in my house, I love them because they are an easy way to add interest to a room. I also use them to balance the more modern parts of the house, like the kitchen or the bathroom. Both of these rooms are brand new, but adding vintage decor helps to give a more traditional look.
What do you love most about buying vintage?
The history. There is so much information on vintage homeware, and buying vintage allows us to look back at how people led their life. They often had much less than we do now but what they did have was so well-designed, well-built and cared for which is why it's still around now for us to enjoy.
What does your home mean to you?
I am a classic introvert, so home for me means comfort and somewhere safe where I can express myself. My mum is a serial redecorator, so growing up no room was ever safe. I think for me, home is about building a space that is timeless and that I can add to for years to come.
