We caught up with the Sam and Tamara who are experts in using antiques in their homes.
How would you describe your interiors style?
Sam’s style has definitely evolved over the last year or so but always at its core has been a love of antiques and vintage with a modern rustic vibe. Her recent renovations have seen a significant shift away from a dark, monochrome look towards a softer palette of soft white and green.
Tamara’s interior style, glimpses of which can be seen on @samandtamaradecorativenatiques, is very much a fusion of earthy textured neutrals, combining antique furniture and decor with splashes of colour and contemporary pieces. She loves mixing different eras, styles and materials - there can be a 19th century Kilim rug next to an antique Chinese cabinet, a Victorian sideboard and contemporary ceramics.
How do you use vintage in your home?
To be honest neither of us really “use" vintage in our homes because vintage and antiques are at the heart of what we do and who we are, it's just the way we operate instinctively. We very rarely buy “new" furniture, art or decorative pieces they are all pretty much vintage or antique. Vintage is our default position.
What do you love most about buying vintage?
The thrill of finding something really unusual. Each vintage piece is unique and in a mass market world that’s pretty special. If we love something we very rarely leave it behind because nothing haunts you like the vintage you didn't buy! We often buy pieces for ourselves and enjoy them for a few months before parting with them through @samandtamaradecortiveantiques.
