Interior designer Jessica has an eye for creating beautiful interiors with timeless appeal and tells us how she incorporates vintage pieces in her projects.
How would you describe your interiors style?
My key focus is always comfort and making a room feel welcoming as well as beautiful. To me that translates as using classic pieces of furniture, layers of colour and pattern, and ensuring everything is well thought out for using and enjoying the room.
How do you use vintage in your projects?
I often use at least one or two vintage or antique pieces in a room to add character and a sense of history. This can be anything from a very smart antique mahogany dining table to a characterful vintage kilim rug. When decorating a room I try to avoid anything from looking or feeling contrived. Adding something vintage to a room ensures that not everything looks too brand new.
What do you love most about sourcing vintage?
There’s always an element of surprise when sourcing something vintage or antique. You never really know exactly what you’ll find. Sometimes a hunt for a particular piece will result in stumbling across something completely different which might be perfect but not what you had originally conceived for the designs. Sometimes you look for an item for one client and end up finding the perfect item for another client.
What does home mean to you?
Home is extremely important to me - it’s everything. I feel that making it as beautiful as possible is an endeavour worthwhile as it brings me so much comfort and joy - and I love doing that for my clients too.
